St Mary’s Parish Centre is a modern building constructed in 2007 and is managed entirely by volunteers to provide services and activities for village residents and visitors. We are child-friendly and have full disabled access and facilities. We are a Fairtrade establishment.

Church Activities at the Centre

Open Door
Open is open 10am – 12noon and 2 – 4pm Monday to Wednesday and Friday. Everyone is warmly welcomed. Why not call in for a drink and a chat – it’s all free and friendly, comfortable and cosy. Mothers’ Union
The MU works to promote and support marriage and family life throughout the world. The branch meets at 2pm on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, usually in St Mary’s Parish Centre. On 1st Thursday of the month we share an evening meeting with Ladies Group. Everyone is welcome to join our meetings. Enquiries: Margaret Sumner Tel: 01943 862940

Ladies Group
Members enjoy a mix of speakers, demonstrations, outings and social events. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday evenings of most months, usually in the Parish Centre at 8.00pm. Visitors and new members are always welcome. Enquiries: Linda Nelson on 01943 863715, or pick up a programme from the Parish Centre.

Church and Centre Activities

Revelation (REV)… Our young people aged 11-18 meet on the 2nd Friday each month, 6-8pm. Contact Lizzie Reynolds 01943 863946

Cuppa, Cake and Company… is a monthly social on the first Friday each month, 2-4pm, with entertainment. It is designed to appeal to older people, who are struggling to get out and abou. It is dementia friendly, and for anyone in need of company. Community transport is available. Contact Becky Berry Tel: 07874226690.

Goldies Sing-along group… This is a fun singalong! You don’t need to be a great singer or know the words! You don’t even need to sing, just come, enjoy the music and have a cup of tea. The group is dementia friendly. Monthly (2nd Thursday, 2-3pm) £2 charge. Contact 01943 864405.

Saturday Coffee Mornings: These are held almost every week, from 9.30 to 11.30am, and are regularly organised by St Mary’s Church, Burley Methodist Church and Burley Scout & Guide Group. They are also occasionally held by other charitable organisations. See details displayed in Parish Centre window each month.

Other Groups & Classes

Burley Art Club: Self-organising art group meets weekly on Tuesdays 7.30pm – 9.30pm. For information contact Greg Learmonth. Tel 01943 864924.

Georgina Kay Yoga: A yoga class improving & focusing on posture, breath, flexibility, relaxation, strength, stamina and balance. First class is free if you sign up to 5 classes for £35, or £8 drop-in.Wednesday morning 9.30am to 10.30am. Ukulele Jammers: Mondays 7-00-8.30pm. All abilities welcome! Bring your ukulele and sing classic songs from the 1950s to the present day. A few spare ukuleles are available to borrow. Email tomclegg01@gmail.com.

Wharfe Valley Social Club: Tuesdays 10.30am to 12noon. The idea is that we learn songs together in a fun, sociable environment. Meet people, have tea and biscuits, sing songs, play music. Bring your instrument / singing voice. It’s £5 and tea and biscuits are included. Music and lyrics are provided. Email tomclegg01@gmail.com.

Wharfedale Valley Voices: 7pm – 8.30pm. A fun and friendly choir for all the community. No experience necessary. We sing by ear and do not read sheet music. Come along and enjoy the experience of singing with others. Email tomclegg01@gmail.com.

Yoga with Iyenar Yoga Teacher, Michelle Mangeolles: Two new yoga classes, Tuesday, 7-8pm for Beginners to Intermediate, followed by 8-9pm for Recuperation and Relaxation for less stress. People are welcome to attend both. Your first class is free then classes will be £6 drop-in thereafter. A discounted monthly block booking system will be in place from Jan 2020. StoryMakers: Wednesdays 9.30-11.30am. Aimed at children aged 2-5 years. We offer stories, making, parachute and circle games, role play activities and so much more. Refreshments for adults and children are included. Please message our Facebook Story Makers page to reserve a place for your child.

Hopscotch Baby Toddler Music and Dance Class: Thursdays 9.30-10.30am for babies (newborn) to 3 years. We play musical instruments and explore music and song, using props, ribbons, puppets, parachutes and more. Classes start from £3.75 and there is also a Pay As You Go option at £5. Health Visiting Service:  A Well Baby Clinic is held at the Parish Centre every Tuesday afternoon 2.30-3.30pm. This is a drop-in clinic. The health visiting team will be available to help you weigh your baby and offer support and advice. Contact the Health Visitors on 01274 221223.

Health & Well-being: Pick up a ‘Well-being Directory’ from the Parish Centre and other village outlets. This provides information on groups and courses operating in Burley, A few such groups run at the Parish Centre from time to time, eg Diabetes Made Easy.

Burley Cares: We have a team of volunteers trained in bereavement care. If you would like to speak with someone, ring the office on 01943 864405 to arrange a meeting with a team member.

Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB): To meet an Adviser on a Thursday morning at the Parish Centre ring Grange Park Surgery on 01943 862108.

Other outside groups have regular or one-off meetings either in the Jepson Room, which has IT available and a large screen, or in the Garden Room with integral kitchen (a favourite venue for Children’s Parties). Open Door is an option for small meetings and has the added comfort of armchairs!
