St Mary’s Parish Centre

St Mary’s Parish Centre is a modern building constructed in 2007 and is managed mainly by volunteers to provide services and activities for village residents and visitors. We are child-friendly and have full disabled access and facilities. We are a Fairtrade establishment.

The Parish Office looks after the administrative needs of St Mary’s Parish Church and Parish Centre. We are now open each weekday, 9.30 to 11.30 to answer any queries. Tel: 01943 864405 or Email: parish.office@stmaryspc.co.uk

Volunteering – If there is anyone out there with time on their hands, contact the Centre Manager at parish.office@stmaryspc.co.uk and she will help you fill that space! Help is always needed…. Caretaking, Open Door etc are just a few of our volunteering roles.

Open Door
Open Door is currently open 10am-12noon on Mondays and Thursdays and 2-4pm on Tuesdays in the Garden Room. Everyone is warmly welcomed. Mothers’ Union
The MU works to promote and support marriage and family life throughout the world. The branch meets at 2pm on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, usually in the Garden Room. Everyone is welcome to join our meetings, and members are also welcome to join Ladies Group at their meetings on the first Thursday of the month – see below. Ladies Group
Ladies Group usually meets on the first Thursday of the month from October to May, at 7.30pm in the Garden Room. We often have a speaker, and occasionally a social evening, quiz or entertainment organised by members. Visitors and new members are always welcome. Enquiries: Linda Nelson on 01943 863715.

Church and Centre Activities

Cuppa, Cake and Company… is a monthly social on the first Friday each month, 2-4pm, with entertainment. It is designed to appeal to older people, who are struggling to get out and about. It is dementia friendly, and for anyone in need of company. Community transport is available. Contact details:

Other Groups & Classes

Ukulele Jammers: Mondays 7-00-8.30pm. All abilities welcome! Bring your ukulele and sing classic songs from the 1950s to the present day. A few spare ukuleles are available to borrow. Email Tom@valleymusic.com

Wharfe Valley Social Club: Tuesdays 10.30am to 12noon. The idea is that we learn songs together in a fun, sociable environment. Meet people, have tea and biscuits, sing songs, play music. Bring your instrument / singing voice. It’s £5 and tea and biscuits are included. Music and lyrics are provided. Email Tom@valleymusic.com

Health Visiting Service – Well Baby Clinic is held at the Parish Centre on Tuesdays, 9.45-12.45 by appointment only. To book an appointment, please call the Health Visiting Team on 01274 221223.

Health & Well-being: Pick up a ‘Well-being Directory’ from the Parish Centre and other village outlets. This provides information on groups and courses operating in Burley, A few such groups run at the Parish Centre from time to time, eg Diabetes Made Easy.

Burley Cares: We have a team of volunteers trained in bereavement care. If you would like to speak with someone, ring the office on 01943 864405 to arrange a meeting with a team member.

Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB): To meet an Adviser on a Thursday mornings ring Grange Park Surgery on 01943 862108.

Other outside groups have regular or one-off meetings either in the Jepson Room, which has IT available and a large screen, or in the Garden Room with integral kitchen (a favourite venue for Children’s Parties). The Sutcliffe Room is an option for small meetings and has the added comfort of armchairs!
