St Mary’s Parish Centre is a modern building constructed in 2007 and is managed entirely by volunteers to provide services and activities for village residents and visitors. We are child-friendly and have full disabled access and facilities. We are a Fairtrade establishment.

The Parish Office looks after the administrative needs of St Mary’s Parish Church and Parish Centre. We are open each weekday morning, 9.00 to 12.00 to answer any queries. Tel: 01943 864405 or Email:

Volunteering – If there is anyone out there with time on their hands, contact the Centre Co-ordinator and she will help you fill that space! Help is always needed…. Caretaking, Open Door etc are just a few of our volunteering roles.

Church Activities at the Centre

Open Door
Open is open 10am – 12noon and 2 – 4pm Monday to Wednesday and Friday. Everyone is warmly welcomed. Why not call in for a drink and a chat – it’s all free and friendly, comfortable and cosy, and a donation for drinks is welcome! Co-ordinator is Jenn Ward, Tel: 07970 498477.

Mothers’ Union
The MU works to promote and support marriage and family life throughout the world. The branch meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, usually in St Mary’s Parish Centre. On 1st Thursday of the month we share an evening meeting with Ladies Group. Everyone is welcome to join our meetings. Enquiries: Margaret Sumner Tel: 01943 862940

Ladies Group
Members enjoy a mix of speakers, demonstrations, outings and social events. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday evenings of most months, usually in the Parish Centre at 8.00pm. Church and Centre Activities

Tiny Tots
Monday 1.00-2.30pm. Small, friendly, parent-led playgroup for babies and toddlers. The session enables new mums to make friends and chat to other mums. Also, floor play time for the babies. Cuppa, Cake and Company…
is a monthly social on the first Friday each month, 2-4pm, with entertainment. It is designed to appeal to older people, who are struggling to get out and about, is dementia friendly, an to anyone really in need of company. Community transport is available. Everyone is welcome. Goldies Sing-along group…
on the second Thursday each month, 2-3pm. This is NOT a choir but fun sing-alongs . You don’t need to be a great singer or know the words! You don’t even need to sing, just come, enjoy the music and have a cup of tea. The group is dementia friendly. Small £2 charge. Contact Becky Berry as above.

Wine Appreciation

Ukulele Group
Mondays 7-00-8.30pm. This can be an introduction to music-making for those who have never played before. Prepare to have fun and sing your heart out! Experienced players also welcome. Anyone can join! A few spare ukuleles are available to borrow. Email

Wharfedale Pilates

Ilkley Dance Centre Ballet Classes

Performance Drama School
Drama and musical theatre (dance) classes suitable for children, 4 – 14 years of age. Friendly and fully inclusive. We are delighted to welcome any child to a two weeks free taster. Classes take place every Thursday 5 – 8pm during term time. Contact Sue Hughes on 01943 602265.

Saturday Coffee Mornings
These are held almost every week, from 9.30 to 11.30am, and are regularly organised by St Mary’s Church, Burley Methodist Church and Burley Scout & Guide Group. They are also occasionally held by other charitable organisations. See details displayed in Parish Centre window each month.

Health Visiting Service
The Health Visitors are part of a wider team providing a service to the whole of the Wharfe Valley. A community based Well Baby Clinic is held at the Parish Centre every Tuesday afternoon 2.30-3.30pm. For information please contact Sharon Morris on 07764 926189.

The Grange Park Patient Group (GPPG) & The Health & Well-being Group
The GPPG is a group of patients registered with the Grange Park Surgery, who work together with the doctors and staff at the surgery to try to maintain and improve local health provision for residents of Burley.
The Health & Well-Being group is a friendly group of people who meet for a chat and tea/coffee on the first Friday of each month 10.30 – 12.00. Further details about both groups from Gill Bowskill on 01943 863323 email:

Diabetes Support Group
Our Diabetes group is a family group for young people with type 1 diabetes. The meetings allow the group to share their experiences, meet new people and have fun. We meet every 6 weeks, and we just ask for a donation of £1 per family for refreshments. Our website gives meeting dates and events coming up. Website:

Burley Bereavement Service
A team of volunteers trained in bereavement care. If you would like to speak with someone, ring the office on 01943 864405 where you will be able to leave your name and phone number. One of the team will then ring you back when they are available.

Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB)
To meet an Adviser on a Thursday morning at the Parish Centre ring Grange Park Surgery on 862108.

Other outside groups have regular or one-off meetings either in the Jepson Room, which has IT available and a large screen, or in the Garden Room with integral kitchen (a favourite venue for Children’s Parties). Open Door is an option for small meetings and has the added comfort of armchairs!
